After almost bleeding to death with my first born every time I wanted to try for another baby and with some ended up pregant I had to consider if I was willing or mentally able to even have a baby at Toowoomba Maternity Unit.

Let’s get this clear this isn’t about ‘mental health issues’ it’s about medical failings and raw birth trauma. After the birth and hemmorage during birth of my first son I didn’t ever want to go back. This was largely due to excessive fluid and being not administered vitiman k to help with obstetric cholestasis. This can make you bleed out.

Every single one of my children it was a consideration if I was to take the risk going back there or just give up and have 1 child.

I know this sounds dramatic but it was that bad.

When I met my husband at 36 he was 46. He had no children and wanted a child with me naturally. I had warned him when I became pregnant that this would be the shit fight of our lives to get this baby here safe and alive. My husband thanks me to this day for my intuition, raw honesty and heads up. Because it absolutely was.

Why should any woman think of abandoning her family plans for the ineptitude of a hospital??

It’s ridiculous and feels not just like playing Russian roulette but playing with life or death.

It’s sad and I have heard it from many women who have been to Toowoomba Base Hospital.

Why are we bypassing family plans, questioning, abandoning family plans or bracing for the worst?????
